Liquid screeds – just like all other screeded surfaces – need to undergo appropriate preparation and finishing, before the subsequent bonded floor coverings are applied. In order to ensure the best possible adhesion and a flawless finish, laitance removal is performed prior to application of the floor covering. In the absence of laitance removals, the risk of de-lamination of the new floor covering is significantly higher.
Liquid Screed Direct is proud to offer comprehensive screed sanding and laitance removal surfaces for commercial and industrial properties alike. Using the most advanced and capable equipment and machinery the market has access to, we’ll ensure your screed surfaces are flawlessly prepared for the application of your chosen floor covering.
Unbeatable results and guaranteed value for money, brought to you by the experts at Liquid Screed Direct.
What is Laitance Removal?
Prior to laying tiles or any other floor coverings over a screeded surface, laitance must be removed to ensure proper adhesion. Laitance refers to a thin crust that forms on the top of the screed, which assists with the curing process while the screed sets in place. Due to the properties of the laitance, it has the potential to cause serious problems if and when flooring is laid directly on top, without first removing this residual layer.
Laitance is removed using powered equipment, applying a lightly abrasive action to the surface. Ideally, laitance removal should be carried out between seven and 14 days after the application of the screed.
However, due to the potential dangers associated with silica inhalation, it is strongly advised that laitance removal is only ever carried out by trained professionals with the appropriate machinery and safety gear. In addition, attempting to remove laitance without sufficient experience and expertise can cause severe damage to the surface of the screed.
As part of our complete service package, Liquid Screed Direct provides full laitance removal and surface preparation of the highest quality. Contact a member of our customer support team today to discuss your requirements in more detail.
Why Remove Laitance?
Failure to remove laitance represents one of the most common causes of flooring installation failures. When laitance appears following the concrete or cement screed curing process, the resulting crust is unsuitable for safe and reliable adhesion to the final floor covering.
Depending on the material used, laitance varies significantly in thickness, ranging from a thin coat of dust to several millimetres or more. The thicker the laitance, the more important it is to ensure it is comprehensively and professionally removed.
An investment in professional laitance removal represents a long-term investment in the quality and safety of your chosen floor coverings. Here at Liquid Screed Direct, our efficient, cost-effective approach to laitance removal guarantees the fastest possible results and a flawless surface to work with. Whatever floor covering you have in mind, you’re guaranteed the best possible results with our professional preparatory services.
